Paused My OSS Individual Sponsorships

As of 2026-07-30, I paused all of the individual sponsorships I had been running through GitHub Sponsors and various OSS project sites.

Sponsorships I Paused

These are the individual sponsorships and personal donations I had previously reported on this blog. All of them are on hold as of now.

What I am pausing is specifically the recurring monthly and annual sponsorships I was funding out of my own pocket.

Why — The 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake

On 2026-07-28, a major earthquake hit Kumamoto. In response, I decided to redirect my personal time, money, and attention away from OSS and toward local recovery and community support in Kumamoto for a while.

My longer-term intent to keep giving back to the OSS I rely on has not changed. But I was also affected by this earthquake, if only lightly, and right now my own day-to-day life and the people around me who went through the same thing come first.

The absolute amounts are small, but I am pulling those recurring subscriptions back to myself and redirecting the equivalent into disaster relief funds and local projects instead.

When I Plan to Resume — Around 2027

For now, I am aiming to resume around 2027. I want to see how the recovery phase progresses and how my own day-to-day life settles before I start turning the recurring payments back on, one project at a time.

When I do resume, I will write a follow-up post explaining which projects I restarted first and how I reordered my priorities.

To the OSS Maintainers

Thank you for supporting my daily work with everything you build. It feels awkward to unilaterally drop off the sponsor list like this, but right now the place where I can add the most value is my hometown. My gratitude and respect for the projects themselves have not changed at all.

Once things settle, I will be back.

That’s all from pausing my OSS individual sponsorships after the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, from the Gemba.
