Since I’m on a business trip to Portland, I participated in a meetup called PDXNode Presentation Night. Let me share how it went.
What is PDXNode?
PDXNode is the Portland version of the regional Node.js community. It was created on January 16, 2013, so it seems to be a community with a long history.
Here’s the agenda-style update article for today:
Vacasa
Today’s venue was provided by the Vacasa office.
I learned for the first time today that they’re a company that provides services like a vacation rental version of Airbnb.
Pre-Event Chat with Craig Fisk
Craig Fisk, who was sitting next to me, struck up a conversation, which was super helpful.
- Craig Fisk - Portland, OR, USA, Universities of Chicago, Wisconsin, Konstanz, Heidelberg | about.me
- picocosmos – Making the world a little smaller.
Neocities
There used to be a service called GeoCities, and this was a presentation by someone developing a service called Neocities, which is inspired by it.
ClojureScript Talk
Apparently there’s an online ClojureScript execution environment called KLIPSE.
PDXNode Meetup Results
- I was somehow able to speak in English with a senior engineer sitting next to me (who was pro-Japan)
- Consumed a large amount of pizza
- Somewhat understood the presentation content
- ClojureScript
I think I’ll participate in some other meetups without being discouraged by English.
That’s all from the Gemba.
